Biodegradable EPS Bead

BioBead™ is a biodegradable technology that modifies the EPS polymer during manufacturing, transforming a standard molded product into a material with an improved end-of-life story. This technology modifies the exterior surface of the EPS bead in a way that the molded EPS part biodegrades in an anaerobic landfill at a vastly accelerated rate.

Faster, Safe Biodegradation

Over 94% of EPS material manufactured with BioBead™ breaks down in 4 years into inert matter, water, and carbon dioxide which can be safely and naturally assimilated into the environment.

Rigorous testing

Our ISTA-certified Thermal Design & Innovation Lab rigorously evaluates EPS parts made with BioBead to ensure consistent performance.

Products made from BioBead™ are recyclable

This allows them to join any EPS recycling stream without degrading the quality of performance.

Performance You Can Trust

The Thermal Design & Innovation Lab at EFP provides meticulous thermal testing showing that BioBead™ does not compromise the physical properties of EPS. Key performance metrics—including water vapor permeability, water absorption, flexural and compressive strength, and thermal R-value—remain intact.
